Create Hetzner Cloud servers from the same form you deploy from.

Connect a Hetzner project with an API token, pick a region and size, and SrvYard asks Hetzner for the machine, waits for it to boot, logs in with a key it generated and installs what the server type needs. Hetzner bills you directly.

Connect a provider
# Settings, Server providers, Hetzner Cloud
name Hetzner (production)
api token paste a project token with Read & Write
verify checked with a call to Hetzner
stored encrypted, never shown again
# a token only works for the project it was created in

01What you need

ItemDetail
Account A Hetzner Cloud project, and permission to create an API token in it.
Token A project API token with Read & Write permission (project, Security, API tokens).
Operating system Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or 26.04 LTS.
Server types App, web, load balancer, database, cache, worker and Meilisearch servers. The type decides what is installed and cannot be changed afterwards.
Sizes Regions and sizes are read live from Hetzner. SrvYard shows the provider’s monthly price next to each size, and caches the lists for six hours.
Plan Hobby includes one server, Pro ten, Business no limit. Archived servers do not count.

02What SrvYard asks of Hetzner

and nothing else

SrvYard asks for regions, sizes and images, and for creating, starting, snapshotting and deleting the machines it made. It does not manage your Hetzner account, billing, networks or other projects.

When you delete a server, the machine at Hetzner is destroyed as well unless you switch Preserve on. Archiving never touches the machine.

You can connect several projects, each under its own name, for example staging and production. A token that Hetzner later rejects shows as Needs reconnecting, and the form greys that account out until you paste a new one.

Already have a Hetzner server? Use Connect an existing server: one command as root, no token.

03Create a server

the Add server form
  1. Name and provider

A name up to 60 characters, which becomes the hostname, and your connected Hetzner project.

  2. Server type

App server if you are unsure: sites, queue workers and a database on one machine.

  3. Region and size

Four cards give the cheapest size for each memory tier, from Small (1 GB) to X Large (16 GB). Show more sizes opens the full list.

  4. Create

SrvYard provisions over SSH. The server shows Ready when it is done, and sites can be created on it.

04Provider questions

answers from the docs
Which cloud providers can SrvYard create servers at?

DigitalOcean, Hetzner Cloud, Akamai (Linode), Vultr, Amazon EC2 and Lightsail, and Proxmox VE 8.1 or newer. You connect an account with an API token or access key under Settings > Server providers. See Add a server provider and its API token.

How does SrvYard log in to my server?

Over SSH, with a key it generated for the purpose. You run one command as root once to authorise that key, and afterwards SrvYard works as its own management user, srvyard, rather than root. See Connect an existing server.

How many servers does my plan allow?

Hobby includes 1 server, Pro 10 and Business has no limit. Archived servers do not count, so archiving one frees a place. When you reach the limit the form says Your plan's server limit is reached. See Compare plans and know your limits.

If I delete a server in SrvYard, is the machine deleted too?

For a cloud server you choose. Switch Preserve on to remove it from SrvYard and keep the machine, or leave it off to destroy the machine at the provider as well. Archiving never touches the machine. See Rename, resize, delete or forget a server.

Can I lock myself out with a firewall rule?

Not through SrvYard. It keeps SSH open however you edit the rules, rebuilds the whole ruleset in one go and restores the previous firewall if the new one fails. A firewall at your provider is separate, and a port must be open in both. See Open and close ports with the firewall.

Does SrvYard apply operating system updates for me?

A provisioned server starts with automatic security updates switched on. SrvYard also shows how many updates are waiting and lets you apply them with a recipe, but it has no button that runs apt upgrade. See Install system packages and apply updates.

Connect a Hetzner project and create the first server.

Free: 1 server, 3 sites, 100 deploys a month. Read the docs first if you prefer.
